At PDI, we perform basic research as a lively symbiosis between materials science and solid state physics in order to inspire new applications. Special emphasis is put on the investigation of low-dimensional structures in semiconductors. The institute covers the whole scientific spectrum from fabrication and processing of semiconductor structures, to microstructural characterization, spectroscopic analysis and theoretical modeling. The scientific and technological competencies and infrastructure are provided by four departments. Research is carried out in six interdisciplinary Core Research Areas.
