Postdoc for design and MBE growth of THz quantum-cascade lasers

— filed under:

In the framework of an IBB-funded research project on terahertz lasers for spectroscopic applications, we offer a position for a

Postdoc for design and MBE growth
of THz quantum-cascade lasers
K 3 / 10

in the research department Semiconductor Spectroscopy.

The research will focus on the design and growth of quantum-cascade lasers for the terahertz spectral region. The design is mainly based on the self-consistent solution of the Schrödinger and Poisson equations in the framework of a one-dimensional transport model. The samples will be grown by molecular-beam epitaxy. The work may include laser preparation as well as spectroscopic characterisation by infrared spectroscopy.
We are inviting physicists with a solid knowledge in semiconductor physics and a background in growth of semiconductor heterostructures as well as an understanding of theoretical approaches for semiconductor lasers. Some experience with infrared spectroscopy and/or fabrication and characterization of THz quantum-cascade lasers is advantageous.
The position is available for 36 months. Payment is according to TVöD (Treaty for German public service). The PDI is an equal opportunity employer. Therefore, female candidates are encouraged to apply and will be preferred in case of adequate qualification. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to disabled candidates. Applications should be sent by July 31st, 2010 to:
