Postdoc for infrared spectroscopy of mid-infrared pumped, electrically-driven THz quantum-cascade lasers

— filed under:

In the framework of a DFG-funded research project on terahertz lasing without inversion based on quantum coherence between intersubband transitions, we offer a position for a

Postdoc for infrared spectroscopy of mid-infrared pumped,
electrically-driven THz quantum-cascade lasers

K 2 / 10

in the research department Semiconductor Spectroscopy.

The research will focus on experimental investigations of gain and lasing due to quantum interference between intersubband transitions in quantum-cascade structures which are pumped by a CO2 laser or mid-infrared quantum-cascade lasers.

The experiments are mainly based on Fourier-transform THz spectroscopy. The work includes the adaption of the experimental setup and laser preparation as well as numerical simulations and the
design of the required structures. The samples are provided by PDI staff.

We are inviting physicists with solid knowledge in semiconductor physics and a background in fabrication and characterization of THz quantum-cascade lasers as well as infrared spectroscopy. Some experience with CO2 lasers and/or an understanding of theoretical approaches for semiconductor lasers are advantageous.
The position is available for 30 months. Payment is according to TVöD (Treaty for German public service). The PDI is an equal opportunity employer. Therefore, female candidates are encouraged to apply and will be preferred in case of adequate qualification. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to disabled candidates.

Applications should be sent by July 31st, 2010 to:
