Dr. Elke Arenholz Appointed Director of the National Synchrotron Light Source II at Brookhaven Lab

PDI is delighted to congratulate Scientific Advisory Board member, Dr. Elke Arenholz, on her appointment as Director of the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Dr. Arenholz is a distinguished scientist specializing in magnetic materials and X-ray spectroscopy. Before joining Brookhaven, she served as Director of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Her career also includes significant roles at the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) and the Advanced Light Source (ALS) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where her work earned her the Klaus Halbach Award for Innovative Instrumentation and the Tim Renner Award. In 2024, she was recognized as an IEEE Fellow for her contributions to X-ray magnetic spectroscopy.
Dr. Arenholz holds a Ph.D. in physics from Freie Universität Berlin and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in condensed matter physics from the University of Regensburg. Her dedication to the scientific community is evident through her active participation in proposal review panels, advisory committees, and conference organizing committees. Additionally, she serves as editor-in-chief and founding editor of the journal npj Spintronics.
Since joining the PDI Scientific Advisory Board in January 2023, Dr. Arenholz has contributed her extensive expertise and valuable insights to our institute's strategic development. PDI acknowledges her valuable contributions to our advisory board and the international scientific community.
