Today, on United Nations International Equal Pay Day, we take a moment to reflect on fairness and equality in the workplace.
At PDI, all employees are paid according to the TVöD (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst – the collective agreement for public service). This system ensures that salaries are based on educational level and professional experience, leaving no room for discrepancies due to gender. In other words: equal work is rewarded with equal pay.
However, we also recognize that equality in pay is only part of the picture. Across science, women remain underrepresented compared to men, and this is also true at PDI. Fewer women pursue scientific careers, and we see this reflected in our community.
We are committed to changing this. That means taking a closer look at the critical points where women tend to leave scientific pathways and working to remove the barriers that discourage them from continuing.
On this Equal Pay Day, we reaffirm our dedication not only to equal pay, but also to building a more inclusive and balanced scientific environment for the future.
