Public Talk by PDI Guest Scientist Madeleine Msall - 08.08.2025
/ Announcements
Madeleine Msall, Josiah Little Professor of Natural Science at Bowdoin College and regular guest scientist at PDI, will give her inaugural lecture at Bowdoin on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. In this livestreamed public talk, Prof. Msall will explore the story of phonons—quantum vibrations that carry heat and sound through solids—and their role in the performance of modern semiconductors, including those operating at cryogenic temperatures.
Prof. Msall is a respected leader in low-temperature solid-state physics, with a research focus on phonon transport and interactions in crystalline solids. A long-time collaborator of PDI, she has co-authored multiple papers on high-frequency acoustic waves and completed two sabbatical stays with us in Berlin. Her continued connection to PDI reflects the strong international ties that support our research community.
The talk is open to all and will be livestreamed from 11:00 PM CET (5:00 PM EDT). A recording will also be available in the days following the event.
