Pushing Boundaries with Science Punk at Berlin Science Week
/ Events , Exhibitions , Festival
We're halfway through Berlin Science Week (BSW), and PDI’s contributions are only ramping up! Embracing this year’s theme of Common Ground, we kicked off our participation at the BSW FORUM’s opening on November 3rd at Holzmarkt, joining forces with scientists, artists, and innovators in a series of thought-provoking events.
First up, our Head of Technology & Transfer, Dr. Carsten Hucho, took the stage to introduce PDI’s Science Punk concept. Alongside other creative exhibitors, he shared how Science Punk merges science with bold, fresh storytelling to engage new audiences. Key to his message was the importance of meeting people where they are and removing barriers to make it easier for non-scientific audiences to engage with science.
After the presentations, PDI’s Tiny Gallery came to life. Curious visitors gathered around our charming wooden hut, leaning in to learn more about the science and ideas behind the Science Punk videos. The videos bring scientific concepts to life — often in unexpected ways — and visitors even have the chance to chat with the PDI scientists and “punks” behind them. You can find out more about our Science Punks and the concepts behind the videos, and even get a sneak peek at the videos here.
Later on Sunday evening, Carsten participated in a panel with Rocko Schamoni, Sibylle Anderl, and Irène Hediger, exploring themes of risk-taking, fear of failure, and leaping into the abyss beyond our comfort zones to explore rule-breaking in science, society, and the arts. The conversations stirred the packed room, inviting each person to examine their own propensity to break convention and embrace boldness.
PDI’s scientists will be at the Tiny Galleries again on 8th, 9th, and 10th November at the times shown below. They welcome you to come along and see Science Punk in person, ask questions, be inspired, and explore ideas beyond your own comfort zone.
