The DGKK+DEMBE Workshop 2024, jointly organized by PDI and the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich-Hertz-Institut (HHI), successfully took place in Berlin from December 11-13, 2024. This annual event evolved from the Workshop of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kristallwachstum und Kristallzüchtung (DGKK) on Epitaxy of III-V Semiconductors and the German MBE Workshop (DEMBE).
The workshop brought together around 190 attendees from the German-speaking research and industry communities, alongside 23 exhibitors who showcased their latest technologies. The diverse program featured 5 invited talks, 70 contributed presentations, and numerous opportunities for networking and discussions. A standout moment was the panel discussion on Research Data — A Valuable Asset, which generated thoughtful and constructive dialogue among participants.
One of the workshop’s distinctive features was its innovative format for contributed abstracts. Participants delivered 3-minute teaser talks, followed by dedicated poster sessions. Instead of traditional printed posters, the work was presented on large digital monitors in the HHI showroom at the Lanolinfabrik, a modern and professional setting that enriched the workshop’s dynamic atmosphere. This approach was highly praised for facilitating in-depth discussions while providing an accessible overview of all contributions.
The workshop dinner at the historic Wartehalle venue offered an ideal environment for informal discussions and networking. The lively atmosphere and engaging conversations underscored the importance of bringing the community together to exchange ideas and foster collaboration.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants, speakers, exhibitors, and sponsors who contributed to the success of the DGKK+DEMBE Workshop 2024. Your involvement and enthusiasm continue to strengthen the community and drive progress in epitaxy and related fields.
