Expertise

  • Background: Structure-property mapping in organic and other emerging semiconductor-based optoelectronic devices, namely solar cells, photodetectors, light-emitting diodes, and transistors, as well as investigation of internal and external stressors’ impact on the reliability of photovoltaic systems.

  • Research at PDI: Building PDI’s first MBE system on carbon-based, conjugated polymers and small molecules to establish the structure-property relationship.

  • Experimental Skillset:

    • Device Fabrication: sol-gel processing by spin coater, blade coater, slot-die coater, thermal evaporation, atomic layer deposition, plasma-assisted vapor deposition, and e-beam deposition.

    • Electrical Characterization: steady-state and transient photocurrent and photovoltage, light intensity-dependent photocurrent and photovoltage, steady-state and transient charge extraction techniques, charge carrier mobility measurements, noise current analysis, noise equivalent power, and cut-off frequency measurements.

    • Optical Characterization: UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy, steady-state photoluminescence, electroluminescence, sensitive external/internal quantum efficiency measurements, impedance spectroscopy, and ellipsometry.

    • Computational Simulations: Transfer Matrix Method (TMM), PVsyst, and LTspice XVII.
