Science in the city

10/31/2012 / Events

Since November 2012, the Science Facade of PDI has been illuminating curious passersby with graphics inspired by our research. Located in the center of Berlin, right next to Gendarmenmarkt and the famous Konzerthaus, the facade engages observers and infuses physics into the cultural environment of the city.

The Science Facade was supported with funding from the German Federal Ministry of Research and Technology (BMBF) and realized in cooperation with PFADFINDEREI, a Berlin based graphic agency. The installation consists of five windows (3x5m each) at the outer façade of the institute on Taubenstrasse, equipped with a projection system.

A compilation of six short animations is streamed every evening. The clips play with the beauty of raw scientific data and are of outstanding visual impact and quality. Rather than offering explanations in the clips themselves, the viewer can access further information with their smartphone through QR-codes that become visible during the film.
