The annual MBE event for the German-speaking community, DGKK & DEMBE, will take place in Magdeburg from 3–5 December 2025. The workshop features scientific presentations on all aspects of epitaxy, including methods such as HVPE, sputter epitaxy, MOVPE, and MBE, across a broad range of material classes. An industry exhibition will also showcase current technological advancements.

A special focus this year is the emergence of AI-driven approaches to materials growth, including pioneering methods for the autonomous optimization of MBE processes. This aligns strongly with PDI’s ongoing collaboration with Bizmuth MBE Ltd. on UnicornOne—one of the first initiatives in Europe to apply large language models (LLMs) and multimodal AI to the autonomous control of molecular beam epitaxy. Developed using PDI’s experimental infrastructure and a longitudinal dataset spanning more than 30 years of MBE research, UnicornOne represents a major step toward fully automated MBE growth and next-generation materials discovery workflows.

Following PDI’s hosting of the 2024 edition in Berlin, the 2025 meeting is organized by the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (OvGU).

PDI Contributions at DGKK–DEMBE 2025

PDI will be represented on each day of the conference:

Wednesday, 3 December 2025

17:15–17:30: Georg Hoffmann
“In-situ monitoring of metal-induced redox reactions on SrTiO₃ by laser reflectometry and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy”

Thursday, 4 December 2025

We are excited to highlight our innovative collaboration with Bizmuth MBE Ltd. Faebian Bastiman will present the latest developments on UnicornOne, the AI-driven platform developed in partnership with PDI that integrates LLMs, multimodal data fusion, and automated control strategies to accelerate MBE growth.

14:50–15:10: Faebian Bastiman (Bizmuth MBE Ltd.)
“Toward Agentic AI for MBE: A Unified AI, RHEED, and Control Software for Rapid GaN Growth Optimisation”

Friday, 5 December 2025

10:00–10:20: Philipp John
“Epitaxial integration of GaN platelets and thin films on metallic TiN using an MBE–MOVPE hybrid approach”

We look forward to engaging with the community in Magdeburg. Come along and meet the PDI team, explore our latest research activities, and learn more about our leading developments in epitaxy and AI-assisted materials growth.
