Science Fassade

Illuminating the corner of Hausvogteiplatz and Taubenstrasse in Berlin's Mitte is PDI's science facade — a virtual window into our nanotechnology institute. The Science Facade engages passersby with graphic interpretations of our work, inspiring curious minds to think differently about science.

The Science Facade was installed in 2012 with support from the German Federal Ministry of Research and Technology (BMBF). The installation consists of five windows (3x5m each) equipped with a projection system.

Current exhibition

On Order And Disorder is a site-specific video installation created by artist Roland Boden for the relaunch of the PDI Science Façade. In this work, the artist visualizes order and disorder in compliment to PDI's event at Berlin Science Week, From order to disorder and back - Phase transitions in Matter, Mind and Society. The installation can be experienced nightly during Berlin Science Week (1st - 10th November, 2023) from nightfall at U-Hausvogteiplatz.

The exhibition will be officially opened on 1st November at 19:00, at the PDI Science Facade, situated on the corner of Taubenstr. and Hausvogteiplatz, 10117 Berlin (U-Hausvogteiplatz).

About the artist
Born in Dresden in 1962, Roland Boden is a mixed-media visual artist researching imagined natural, architectural, and societal phenomena. Boden uses quotations, photographs, reproductions, reconstructive drawings, and computer-generated images, combining real scientific and historical facts with completely fictitious elements to create a parallel reality that cleverly and artistically questions contemporary perceptual processes.
